Taste Test Conducted Over The Web
Introduction to Marketing Students at Bentley College Use Perseus SurveySolutions for the Web to Help Define Frozen Dessert Distributor's Business Strategy
WALTHAM, MA (October 13, 1999) - Marketing Professor Perry Lowe and the students in his Introduction to Marketing class used SurveySolutions for the Web to survey over 2000 prospective students and their parents at Bentley's open house last weekend. The survey was part of a project designed to provide Swedish Glace, maker of the best-selling frozen dessert in Sweden, with information on how to best introduce their product to the New England market. The project also provided students with an opportunity to view how marketing fundamentals are used to make real-world business decisions.
Survey participants were given samples of three different flavors of Swedish Glace non-dairy frozen dessert and asked to rate them in comparison to other gourmet ice creams. The survey was conducted in Bentley's new computer lab using SurveySolutions for the Web. SurveySolutions was also used to display up-to-the-second results of the survey and to create a presentation which will be used by Sinco Inc., Swedish Glace's American distributor. This information will assist them in making decisions about which flavors to introduce into the New England area.
"This project helps us clear the focus and validate the approach we've taken," said Robert Snyder President of Sinco Inc. "It's been very helpful."
Barry Snyder, an MBA student working for Sinco, designed the questionnaire using SurveySolutions for the Web. The survey was then sent to Perry Lowe who conducted the survey using it as a teaching tool in his Introduction to Marketing class. Snyder said he was impressed with SurveySolutions for the Web's capabilities.
"It's a great product," said Snyder. "Having Web-based instant results and getting that feedback in such a short time frame is great. Surveys go through several changes as they are developed, to be able to view instant results and change the survey quickly is very efficient."
